JLD Annual Conference and Ball 2010

The third JLD annual conference will be held on Saturday 17 April at the Law Society's Hall, Chancery Lane, London.

The conference provides 4.75 CPD hours and sessions include negotiation skills and techniques, practical productivity training and alternatives to private practice.

The traditional black tie ball includes champagne, a three course dinner and dancing. The JLD conference is a great opportunity to network and pick up new skills. See programme below for full details, or read a review from last year's conference to get a flavour of the event.

09:45-10:15 Registration and refreshments.
10:15-10:45 Welcome and introduction to the Junior Lawyers Division and its policies by Heidi Sandy, chair of the JLD.
10:45-11:15

Keynote speaker - Lord Collins of Mapesbury
First solicitor to be appointed a High Court Judge direct from private practice and now the first solicitor member of the new Supreme Court.

10:45 onwards Interview skills clinics will be available throughout the day on a one to one basis in 30 minute slots.
11:15-12:15

Plenary session - Negotiation skills and techniques

Learn essential techniques for conducting successful negotiations. Led by Jane Jarman, Nottingham Law School.

12:15-12:30 Refreshment break and networking opportunity.
12:30-13:30

Plenary session - Practical productivity training

Guidance on increasing your productivity and achieving effective time management. Led by Jennifer Overhaus, author of 'Juggling the Big 3 for Lawyers: A career-building plan for developing a personal brand, client business, and a leadership mindset'.

13:30-14:15 Buffet lunch and networking opportunity.

Choice of one of the following:

Fee fears
- How to deal with issues relating to fees and legal costs with clients. With Paul Kelly, Senior Associate, Cobbetts and David Barton, solicitor advocate.

Presentation skills

Alternatives to private practice
- A panel discussion led by lawyers from local government, in-house and other lawyers outside of traditional private practice. Speakers:

You will be notified by email approximately two weeks before the conference as to whether you have been successful in securing an appointment with a JLD adviser. Please note this is on a first come first served basis and only available to registered conference delegates.
