Qualifying

This section covers the qualifications you need to become a solicitor.

Student career path

Qualifying with a law degree

Taking a law degree is probably the most straightforward route to becoming a solicitor – your studies include everything required for the academic stage of training.

Qualifying with any other degree

If your degree is not in law, you may still become a solicitor, but you will need to realign your studies and take the CPE course separately.

Qualifying from outside the UK

The Qualified Lawyers Transfer Regulations 1990 provide the opportunity for overseas lawyers to transfer to the Roll of Solicitors for England and Wales.
