JLD Helpline

If you have a problem and need to talk to someone call the freephone number – 08000 856 131 – Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 21:00.

Whether you're a student, paralegal, trainee or solicitor, personal and work related difficulties can be common. The JLD Helpline is a confidential freephone advisory and referral service which provides valuable support to JLD members on a variety of issues including:

  • finding a training contract
  • debt
  • problems in the work place

The helpline is not able to take individual cases forward or issue any legal advice, but it can give general guidance and provide references to other bodies, professional groups and associations as well as useful publications and websites. Please note that while every effort will be made to ensure the accuracy of the information provided it does not constitute legal advice and cannot be relied upon as such. The JLD Helpline does not accept responsibility for liabilities arising as a result of reliance upon the information given.

Solicitors Support Network

For confidential help, telephone 0800 328 4203. The service is open from Monday to Friday, 9.00am – 5.30pm.

The Solicitors Support Network offers a free and confidential support service for solicitors in England and Wales which deals with a variety of problem areas, including:

Library services

Telephone 0870 606 2511; the service is open from Monday to Thursday between 9.00am and 6.00pm, and on Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm.

All law society members have free access to one of the best law libraries in England. A team of experienced law librarians will help you find the information you need from our extensive collection of practitioners' texts, legislation, law reports, journals and electronic resources.

Practice Advice Service

Call the helpline 0870 606 2522 from Monday to Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm, or E-mail your enquiry.

The Practice Advice Service is a dedicated support line for solicitors, trainees and employees of law firms. It is staffed by a team of experienced solicitors who deal with enquiries using their own knowledge and a variety of information sources as well as the experience of other specialists within the Law Society. We are able to assist with enquiries on legal practice in many areas, including:

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) can help if you have a query which relates to a regulatory issue, for example:
